In the early morning hours of September 10, 2017, category 4 Hurricane Irma’s eye came ashore in the lower Florida Keys, centered at Cudjoe Key, which also happens to be the midpoint of our tours.
Hurricane Irma has forever changed so many aspects of our beautiful Florida Keys and Key West.
The history, culture, legends, historic structures, people’s lives and homes, and the ecology of the keys are all affected by this horrific storm.
Although the storm has caused so much devastation, what has been occurring in the aftermath gives me so much hope that we can recover. Our incredible community of citizens helping each other is truly inspiring.
Seeing Royal Poinciana flowers blooming on a wind-ravaged tree clinging to life on Duval Street makes me realize all that we have lost will be regrown and our chain of islands will be beautiful again one day.
Stay strong Florida Keys and Key West. We will recover. We will win.
